Video: Tiger's Swing 1997 vs. 2015

Tiger Woods is playing in his first round 2015 today as this is written, at the Phoenix Open. That's the tournament where, in 1997, he famously aced the 16th hole as a rookie. And kudos to the PGA Tour for quickly posting a side-by-side comparison video of Woods' swings at the Phoenix Open, comparing 1997 to 2015. Here you go: Tiger's 1997 swing vs. Tiger's 2015 swing. A video posted by PGA TOUR (@pgatour) on Jan 29, 2015 at 12:14pm PST No surprise that, equally quickly, Brandel Chamblee had a pointed take. Here's his tweet; you can click to read the comments and debate that ensued: All u need to know about a b4&an after is evident in this picture 97 he covered the ball, now he's addicted to an idea pic.twitter.com/JJwEC9o9JK — brandel chamblee (@chambleebrandel) January 29, 2015

Watch: 101-Year-Old Woman Still Golfing

Here's a great little video, only one minute, 29 seconds long, discovered via Twitter . Its subject is Ida Pieracci, who holds the San Jose Country Club record for most holes in one. She's 101 years old in the video (102 now in real time) and still going strong, golfing 4-5 times a week. She seems much younger than that, and perhaps a clue why is in her response to the question, "What's the key to a long, happy life?" "Just being a good kid!" she replies.

New Golf Movie, '5 Hour Friends,' Debuts Feb. 3

Image
There's a new golf movie on the way, and it arrives on Feb. 3, 2015. It's called 5 Hour Friends ( buy it or stream it ) and stars former Golden Globe nominee Tom Sizemore. 5 Hour Friends had a very limited theatrical release in March/April of 2014, it appears mostly in the San Diego, Calif., area (because it was shot on location there, including at Torrey Pines). The Feb. 3 release is to video-on-demand. The movie will be available on VOD through major TV cable outlets as Cox, Charter, Verizon and Dish (among many others), as well as available on VOD through other outlets such as iTunes, Vudu and Amazon. You can get a full list of VOD option on the movie's website . So what is 5 Hour Friends all about? The one-sentence description on the website of production company 905 Productions is this: "A middle-aged golfer and lifelong Lothario finally gets a taste of his own medicine when he meets a confident but needy female lawyer." A bit more description come

From the Annals of Terrible Golf Product Names ...

Image
This tweet popped into existence today from the floor of the 2015 PGA Show: I don't think someone thought through the product name long enough. pic.twitter.com/YQfq3nOZdI — Ryan Ballengee (@RyanBallengee) January 22, 2015 See the name? "HJ Glove." Right. Because no golfers are going to make jokes about what the "HJ" might stand for on your new golf glove. Another tweeter replied to the above by recalling a line of skin care products aimed at golfers that debuted under the name "Fore Skin." Really! I remember that stuff. After receiving lots of derision and eye-rolling, the company quickly changed the name to "For Your Skin." Don't think they are still around. One terribly named golf product that is still around is the Big Dick driver. Wait, what's that? Yes: Big Dick. By a company called Divnick Golf. Here's photographic proof of its existence: They tried to claim they were just playing on the "Dick and Jane"

Golf's Trick-Shotting Twosome, the Bryan Bros, on 'Big Break Palm Beaches'

The next Big Break on the Golf Channel is called Big Break The Palm Beaches, FL , and the cast of 12 men has now been revealed . And two of those Big Break Palm Beaches cast members are George Bryan and Wesley Bryan. Yes, the Bryan Bros, of golf trick shot fame. Well, "fame" may be too strong a word at this point, but give them time. They've been attracting fans of their YouTube videos, picking up collaborators, featuring on GolfDigest.com - and, now, appearing on television. Here's a not-so-brave prediction: We'll be seeing the Bryan Bros on Golf Channel many times after Big Break Palm Beaches is finished. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if these guys wind up with their own show, in some fashion. A couple years ago we posted a video of a golfer in the 1930s executing trick shots , and commented that golf trick shots haven't really come very far since. But the Bryan Bros are trying to change that. They bring a fresh attitude, fresh approach to what

Check out the Golf Apparel Company of Original 'Buffy' Kristy Swanson

Image
Did you know that actor Kristy Swanson - the original "Buffy" in Buffy the Vampire Slayer - has her own golf apparel brand? I didn't, not until Swanson tweeted this: I am thrilled to be appearing on the @Back9Network today to talk about my #Ladies #Golf line called @aDRESSitGOLF with @EricaBachelor 😄👍⛳️ — Kristy Swanson (@KristySwansonXO) January 12, 2015 Kristy originated the role of Buffy in the movie version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the TV version followed and was based on the movie). She's worked steadily in movies and television since the mid-1980s, with the 1990s being her most prolific decade as an actor. Swanson has also appeared in Maxim and Playboy photo shoots. I knew all that. What I didn't know is that Kristy Swanson is a golfer who not too long ago started designing her own golf apparel. That turned into the brand aDRESSitGOLF. An announcement of the brand appeared on the aDRESSitGOLF website back in March 2014, and inclu

PXG Golf: Premium Club Company from GoDaddy Founder Bob Parsons

This tweet came across the transom today: This is happening! #RyanMoorePGA puts @ParsonsExtreme #Golf clubs into play at the #HyundaiTOC http://t.co/FYeHnvVpNM via @PGATour #PXG — Parsons Golf (@ParsonsExtreme) January 9, 2015 We all know who Ryan Moore is, and you might be familiar with his quirky history when it comes to golf equipment and endorsements. In the past he's gone years without an endorsement deal - by choice - and he's played some lesser-known (to average golf fans, anyway) brands such as Scratch Golf. But who the heck is PXG Golf? PXG Golf is Parsons Xtreme Golf, and it's the baby of GoDaddy.com founder Bob Parsons. When you're super rich you can indulge your passions, and Parsons is passionate about golf. He owns Scottsdale National Golf Club, and now he owns his own golf equipment company. Rory McIlroy Named One of Top 50 Bachelors of 2015

Image
American lifestyle magazine Town & Country must like something about Rory McIlroy's lifestyle: The publication - the oldest continuously published general interest magazine in the United States, according to Wikipedia - includes McIlroy on its ranking of the Top 50 Bachelors of 2015 . Here's what T&C says about McIlroy , who ranked No. 35: Why him? The Irish golf phenom, 25, was the first European to win three different majors, nabbing a reported $100 million deal with Nike in the process. Likes : Controversy. He has traded insults with the Ryder Cup and Tiger Woods. Natural habitat : Gym. Golf. Repeat. Caveat : He credits his 2014 wins to breaking up with fiancee Caroline Wozniacki after the invites had gone out. Frankly, those comments don't betray any particular knowledge about McIlroy on the part of Town & Country . But, then, knowledge rarely drives such lists anyway. These things are supposed to fun, attention-grabbing, debate-inducing. And
